Instructor Bill Mann. Learn
Outlook 2007 with me.

Would you like to get more out of Outlook than every before? To get more done with less effort? Maybe even get Outlook to do some of the boring, tedious work for you?

I've already taught thousands of people how to use Outlook; and that's not counting all the people who've read my How to Do Everything with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 & 2007 books. Let me teach you too.

Take this course and you'll quickly learn the basics of Outlook... and much more. Of course I'll show you how to use all the most important parts of Outlook. But I'll also show you how to use them to your best advantage, from getting things done faster with shortcuts, to creating rules that make Outlook do some of your work for you.

"Will Recommend the Course to Others"

I am amazed at all the things that Outlook can do for me. When you learn something on your own you tend to learn only the bare bones and don't get an opportunity to immerse yourself and really be able to use it to its fullest. I am also very glad I took this course, and will recommend it to others.

You'll become a confident & productive Outlook user.

I guarantee it.

What You'll Learn

So what exactly will you learn in this course? Let's take a quick look at what we'll cover in each of the 12 lessons:

  • Lesson 1 starts with a whirlwind tour of Outlook 2007's new user interface and help systems to get you oriented. Once you can find your way around, we hook you up with you own Gmail account that you can use to do class assignments, and continue using after the class is over. To wrap up the first lesson, we take a look at some keyboard shortcuts which will make navigating Outlook a breeze.

  • Lesson 2 puts your brand new Gmail email account to use. We cover, sending, receiving and replying to messages with Outlook, along with Desktop Alerts, Outlook's way of letting you know that you have new messages to read or tasks to do.

  • Lesson 3 is where we start getting all your messages under control. We talk about how you can simplify your life by handling all your email in Outlook. Then we cover Outlook's message groups and flags, which help you keep all those messages organized. Finally, we see how rules can automate much of the mundane message handling you're currently doing.

"What a Great Lesson"

What a great lesson! I learned so much. It will be great to go through and be able to organize all my emails and find messages quickly that I had been manually searching for. I am thoroughly enjoying this course!

  • Lesson 4 gets us into contacts. Keep track of the people who are important to you with Outlook's built-in contact system. Not only do you learn how to keep track of your contacts, you'll see how you can use the information they contain in other areas of Outlook, like the address fields of an email message. You also learn about searching your contacts so you can easily find the last name of that guy Joe, or the phone number of the restaurant on Santiago Street.

  • Lesson 5 takes us in a different direction. Outlook 2007 can interact with RSS feeds and instant messaging programs, allowing you to tie all your communications a little closer together. In this lesson we look at how well Outlook plays with these other forms of electronic communication.

  • Lesson 6 marks our move from the communication side of Outlook to the personal information management side. Our first stop is the calendar, which was significantly redesigned for Outlook 2007, making it more powerful and useful. You'll learn all the calendar basics, as well as more advanced abilities like how to have multiple calendars for different purposes.

  • Lesson 7 is all about getting things done. If you have lots of tasks to do (and who doesn't?) this lesson will be real useful to you. You'll learn how Outlook helps you keep track of all the tasks you need to do, even reminding you when it's time to get to work on each.

  • Lesson 8 is about notes. You know, those random bits of paper that are scattered throughout your world, filled with little bits of random information that doesn't have any better home. Outlook lets you keep track of all your notes electronically, with its own built-in form of digital sticky notes. If you're like me, you'll soon find these notes to be an indispensible part of your life. I have no idea what I would do without the hundreds of notes I have stored in Outlook.

  • Lesson 9 brings us back to talking about managing your Outlook information again. You'll revisit folders and rules, but with a different focus. You'll also learn how to print Outlook information you want to have accessible when you're away from the computer.

  • Lesson 10 shows you how to archive old information you want to get out of the way, but not lose permanently. You'll learn to archive old items and back them up for safekeeping. And we'll also talk about the tools you can use to find specific items among the hundreds or thousands of Outlook items you'll accumulate over time.

  • Lesson 11 is where we talk about the ugly side of online life. When you use an email program, your computer and your personal information are potentially exposed to the creeps who inhabit the darker corners of the Internet. In this lesson you'll learn how to use Outlook's own security measures to increase your protection against these thugs.

  • Lesson 12 is the end of the line. Here you'll learn the ways that you can customize Outlook to work more the way you want it to. While the program isn't infinitely customizable, you may be surprised by the number of ways you can tweak Outlook to suit you.

"I Learned So Much"

Bill,I very much enjoyed your class! There was so much information. I did not know Outlook was so powerful and could do so many things! I hope you teach more on-line classes!!!

Why Using Outlook Better is So Important

Email is a key part of modern work, and Outlook isthe email program of choice for most companies. So the better you become with Outlook, the better an employee you become. And in these days of high unemployment and continual layoffs, every little edge helps.

Now I don't mean to imply that your boss is going to fire you if you don't take my course! But if you can become a little more productive, a little more effective, maybe even the person in the office others come to when they have Outlook questions, won't that make you a little bit more secure?

"Adds Valuable Time to the Work Day"

Each time I need to call someone and ask how to do this or that steals valuable time from my work day. Thank you for having this class. It is just what I am looking for.

What Would It Take for You to Learn this on Your Own?

Could you learn everything we cover in the course on your own? Sure. But do you have the desire or the time to spend doing it? Developing this course took hundreds of hours of work, informed by years of experience using, writing about, and teaching Outlook.

How much would 200 hours of your time be worth, even if you had that much free time to learn about Outlook? Even at $10/hr. that's $2000.00 worth of your time.

More importantly, over my years of teaching about Outlook, I've gotten feedback from hundreds of students about what works and what doesn't. I can't begin to put a assign a number to the value of that feedback from real people like you using Outlook out in the real world.

Many students come into the course with one or more burning questions that have them stumped. In most cases, I've seen the problem somewhere along the line and can help them get it resolved immediately.

How much would it be worth to you to get your one burning Outlook question resolved?

And let's not forget the direct benefits to you of being more proficient with Outlook. After the course you'll be able to work more efficiently and quickly in Outlook.

How much would your life improve if you could spend less time wrestling with your email every day? How about 10% to 20% less time?

How much happier would you be if you could get Outlook to automatically filter and file your email for you?

How much more secure would your job be if Outlook made sure you never forgot another task and were never late for another meeting?

P.S. Remember how I said I didn't think your boss would fire you for not taking my course? That doesn't mean your boss won't notice if you do take it. I'm proud to say that at least one of my students last year announced in her course's discussion forum that her boss required her to complete an Outlook course as a condition of a promotion and did indeed promote her after receiving a copy of her certificate of completion. Now that's cool!

Join us in the next session of Introduction to Outlook 2007. Who knows what will come of it.
